There are many reasons to become an IV therapy nurse—like more variation and better one-on-one time with patients. But the largest reason is simply that you can make more money which can lead to a whole host of benefits.

To go a little deeper into what it’s like to supplement your nursing career (or even become an IV therapy nurse full-time), we interviewed our nurse manager Madison Galindo to see why she enjoys supplementing her income with IV therapy work—and what she enjoys about being a nurse in general.

Nurse administrator – Average annual salary is approximately $90,000

Are you a great nurse but also a leader and collaborator who enjoys managing people? Then becoming a nurse administrator might be the option for you. Rather than helping patients directly, you’ll be on the business side of nursing. So, you’ll be in charge of hiring, training, and handling compliance and similar tasks. You do have to have your bachelors’ degree to become a nurse administrator.

Nurse case manager – Average annual salary is approximately $78,000

Are you hoping to have a more direct impact on patients but also use your management skills? Then you might want to give nurse case management a shot. Your primary duty will be to act as a patient advocate and to put together a plan for their care. That’ll include communicating with patients and their families and coordinating care between the various specialists and sites.

Nurse informaticist – Average annual salary is approximately $84,000

Do you have leadership, management, and nursing skills, but you also have an interest in technology? Then a nurse informaticist is likely a good choice for you. One of the most exciting aspects of being a nurse informaticist is that you (using statistical analysis) can help really improve your workplace so you’re helping coworkers and patients. In addition, you’ll be part of a team that develops technology to aid patients and providers. A bachelor’s degree is required and sometimes a master’s degree is preferred.

School nurse – Average annual salary is approximately $51,000

Do you love working with children and being a nurse? Look no further than becoming a school nurse. As perhaps the only RN on campus, you’ll be tending to students’ various health-related needs—such as treating injuries, developing wellness plans, and teaching health classes. You will need a bachelor’s degree to become a school nurse.

IV therapy nurse – Average annual salary is approximately $85,000

If your main goal is to leave your bedside position and continue your nursing career, working as an on-the-go IV therapy nurse could be the perfect solution for you. IV therapy nurses are able to build their own network of patients delivering the best self-care treatments in more relaxed environments.

Healthcare social worker – Average annual salary is approximately $60,000

Are you a nurse who particularly values mental health and advocating for your patients? You might want to look into being a healthcare social worker. Overall, as a healthcare social worker, you’ll be providing comfort and support to patients and their families at a difficult time in their lives. A large part of your job will be understanding where patients are in their journeys and how you can best help them. You will need a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree is sometimes required.

Community health worker – Average annual salary is approximately $46,000

Are you someone who’s interested in improving your community and building your experience in the healthcare industry? Then a second career as a community health worker could be the perfect fit for you. Beyond offering counseling and other forms of support, you’ll help gather data, develop education and outreach programs, and help provide resources for people experiencing mental illness, food insecurity, and much more. And you only need a high school diploma for this role.
